Barriers are being placed to trap debris in the Yaque del Norte River

The Council of Support for Jarabacoa, known as Coaja and comprising local business owners and merchants, has initiated a pilot preservation plan for the Yaque del Norte river. The initiative involves installing bio-barriers designed to capture and contain solid waste, with a particular focus on plastics, to combat ongoing river contamination.

The project marks a concerted local effort by the commercial sector to address environmental degradation in the vital waterway. By trapping debris before it can travel further downstream, the pilot program aims to mitigate the accumulation of pollutants and protect the ecosystem of the Yaque del Norte.
