Barriers are being placed to trap debris in the Yaque del Norte River

The Consejo de Apoyo a Jarabacoa (Coaja), an organization composed of local business leaders and merchants, has launched an ambitious pilot preservation plan for the Yaque del Norte river. The initiative involves the installation of bio-barriers designed to capture and contain solid waste, with a particular focus on plastics, in order to mitigate river contamination.

This environmental effort targets the protection of the Yaque del Norte river system through physical containment measures. By intercepting floating garbage before it can spread further down the waterway, the project seeks to address pressing pollution challenges affecting local water resources.
