Barriers are being placed to trap debris in the Yaque del Norte River

The Council of Support for Jarabacoa (Coaja), an organization comprising local business leaders and merchants, has initiated a pilot preservation plan for the Yaque del Norte river. The initiative involves the installation of bio-barriers designed to capture and contain solid waste, with a specific focus on plastics contributing to the river's contamination.

This environmental effort marks a targeted local response to pollution challenges affecting the Yaque del Norte water system. By deploying physical barriers to intercept floating refuse, the business coalition aims to mitigate the accumulation of waste and protect the ecological health of the river during the ongoing pilot phase.
