Néstor Jair Quiñones Hernán, a Colombian inmate convicted of homicide who escaped from a prison in Chile, is suspected of having a romantic relationship with a detained center employee who was allegedly linked to his escape. The Regional Prosecutor's Office of Atacama presented WhatsApp conversations and letters as evidence, including messages such as "I love you very much, there is little time left."

In a separate and unrelated incident, Leonardo Múnera Martínez, a Colombian tourist from the city of Armenia, died during a vacation excursion in Acapulco, Mexico. Múnera Martínez passed away after attempting to rescue a woman from his travel group who had been swept away by a current at a beach, causing shock and mourning in his hometown.
