Company director, driver fined for illegally storing 2,115 litres of diesel

PETALING JAYA: The director of a sand mining company and a lorry driver were fined RM12,500 each after pleading guilty to illegally storing 2,115 litres of diesel two years ago, purportedly for resale.Ipoh sessions court judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad meted out the fine after R Prakash, 43, and lorry driver V Ammasi, 30, pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of controlled articles, Berita Harian reported.According to the charge sheet, the pair stored the 2,115 litres in two intermediate bulk containers in a lorry, 15 jerry cans and two plastic cans.They were charged with committing the offence at Trade Shipper Resources in Jalan Gopeng BT3, Batu Gajah around 7.30am on Nov 13, 2024.The charge under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act is punishable by a maximum RM1 million fine, up to three years in prison or both, upon conviction.Domestic trade and cost of living ministry prosecuting officer N Shamani prosecuted while Prakash and Ammasi were not represented.During mitigation, Prakash, the firm's sole director, appealed for a lighter sentence, saying his company had been enduring financial losses.Shamani then told the court that the pair had submitted representations to the prosecution, which agreed to a RM12,500 fine for each accused.
