(Facebook pic)JOHOR BAHRU: A customer service officer was charged at the magistrates' court here today with the murder of his one-year-old son three years ago.G Thevendhiran, 40, nodded after the charge was read before magistrate Nurzihan Abdul Rehman, but no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the High Court's jurisdiction.He is charged with murdering the boy at Straits View Condominium in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya between 8.30am and 10am on Sept 12, 2023.The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty, or 30 to 40 years in prison and at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.Deputy public prosecutor Nor Deana Aqilah Aliman appeared for the prosecution, while Thevendhiran was unrepresented.The court fixed Oct 1 for mention pending the submission of DNA, forensic, chemical and toxicology reports.In separate proceedings before magistrate A Shaarmini, Thevendhiran was sentenced to one month in prison and fined RM3,000 after pleading guilty to possessing obscene material.He was charged with storing the material on his mobile phone at the parking area of the same condominium at 1pm on July 18 this year.The offence, under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.Deputy public prosecutor Anis Shafeeqah Shariffudin prosecuted, while lawyer Noor Asyikin Shafiqah Atham Malik from the National Legal Aid Foundation represented Thevendhiran.
