The United States government, under the administration of President Donald Trump, has established a new regulatory procedure governing international marriage agencies. Announced in August, the stricter enforcement is designed to prevent the exploitation of immigrants and curb fraud by international matchmakers, dating services, and intermediaries that charge fees for matchmaking and introduction services between citizens and foreign nationals.

The regulatory update targets intermediaries that facilitate romantic relationships and marriages across borders, a sector that has previously faced scrutiny regarding the protection of vulnerable foreign applicants. By tightening oversight, the administration aims to hold these commercial matchmaking services more accountable and safeguard immigrants from potential abuses associated with paid international dating and marriage arrangements.
