The Government says it respects press freedom after the Interior Ministry acknowledged its list of journalists of a domestic nature

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior acknowledged on Tuesday that its communication team created an internal press dossier containing the names and political ideologies of dozens of Spanish journalists. The revelation prompted a defense from the government, with government spokesperson Elma Saiz asserting during a Council of Ministers press conference that the executive deeply respects freedom of the press and acts in accordance with that principle daily.

While the government defended the material as a routine "working document," the acknowledgment of a state-compiled list tracking the ideological leanings of media professionals has brought scrutiny regarding administrative transparency and the boundaries of internal government monitoring of the press.
