The mega-prison approach to fighting crime

In January, Chilean political figure José Antonio Kast visited the Terrorism Confinement Center (Cecot) in El Salvador. Arriving by helicopter, Kast toured the facility to examine its operations and infrastructure as part of a broader discussion on regional crime-fighting strategies.

During the visit, Kast expressed his intention to evaluate the Salvadoran model for potential implementation in Chile. He stated that his country needs to identify and import effective strategies from abroad to address domestic security challenges.
