Former foreign minister Pradip Gyawali has emphasized the importance of Nepal taking a leading role in the mountain agenda. Speaking on the country's position, Gyawali argued that Nepal is uniquely situated to spearhead initiatives for the Himalayan region.

As part of his proposal, Gyawali called for the establishment of a trilateral mechanism involving Nepal, India, and China. This regional approach echoes previous remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah at the United Nations General Assembly.
