NewzFrance has announced a significant increase in police and gendarmerie deployments along its border with Spain following the recent surge of illegal migrants crossing from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the reinforcement measures took effect on Friday, with 184 additional police officers deployed and expanded aerial surveillance using drones. In a post on X, Nunez said the deployment will increase further from Saturday, bringing the number of additional officers and gendarmes to 334, on top of the personnel normally assigned to the Franco-Spanish border.
The Interior Minister also announced that three Border Police aircraft will support operations along the frontier, while authorities will increase patrols on trains travelling from Spain into France.
