Hurricane Polo strengthens to Category 4 and may bring heavy rain to southwestern Mexico while staying offshore

Late on Monday, Hurricane Polo intensified into a Category 4 storm in the eastern Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico. The hurricane registered maximum sustained winds of 130 mph (215 kph) and was tracked remaining offshore while threatening to bring heavy rainfall to southwestern Mexico.

Forecasters indicated that the powerful storm possessed the potential to intensify further, with projections suggesting it could reach Category 5 strength on Tuesday. Despite the expected heavy precipitation in coastal regions, the storm's projected path keeps its core out at sea.
