Indonesian authorities, in collaboration with the International Animal Rescue Indonesia (YIARI), released eight orangutans into the Batu Nyambu Protected Forest in West Kalimantan on Friday. The animals were relocated to the 23,000-hectare reserve following their rescue from recent wildfires that impacted Borneo island.

This release is part of a broader conservation effort addressing the threat of forest fires to local wildlife. Between August and the recent release date, authorities and rescue organizations have successfully retrieved 46 orangutans from areas affected by blazes.
