Central American Games: Liranyi Alonso wins gold in the 200

During the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games held in Santo Domingo on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the Dominican Republic delegation secured multiple podium finishes in athletics and karate. Liranyi Alonso claimed gold in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 23.07 seconds, while Alexander Ogando earned silver in the men’s 200-meter final. Additionally, the men’s 4x100 relay team, consisting of Franquelo Pérez, Yohandris Andújar, Melbin Marcelino, and Yancarlos Martínez, won gold with a time of 37.9 seconds, and karateka Thalía Terrero secured a gold medal in the -55kg kumite category after defeating Cuba's Baurelys Torres 10-3.

These athletic achievements contribute to a total of 98 medals won by the Dominican delegation as of the start of Thursday's events. In light of this performance, the Dominican state has committed approximately 90.6 million pesos in financial incentives for the participating athletes.
