The burial that survived the looting: an elite Chimú tomb with 38 individuals and ceremonial goods discovered in Chan Chan

Archaeologists have discovered an elite Chimú burial site within the Utzh An sector of the Chan Chan archaeological complex. The find consists of a funerary platform featuring a central chamber and two lateral spaces, containing the remains of 38 individuals accompanied by ceremonial goods.

The discovery is notable for having remained intact despite historical looting at the site. The findings provide new insights into the burial practices and social structure of the Chimú civilization.
