The drought leaves Puerto Rico counting drops of water

Puerto Rico is currently facing one of its most severe water crises in the past decade due to an intensifying drought. By late July, the dry conditions had impacted approximately 60 percent of the island's territory.

In response to the escalating water shortage, the Puerto Rican government declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard. The crisis has continued to worsen, ultimately forcing authorities to implement water rationing measures.
