A 28-year-old man whose Florida driving privileges had been suspended 17 times was arrested early Friday after police said he drove into a North Miami bar and grill, injuring multiple people, then fled. Dontral Jackson was arrested just before 2 a.m. Friday after North Miami police officers stopped a white Chevrolet Malibu near Northwest 119th Street and Seventh Avenue, according to his arrest report.Police said multiple people flagged down an officer on routine patrol and reported that a vehicle had fled the scene of a crash at Makana Kava Bar & Hawaiian Kitchen, located at 12009 NW Seventh Ave.Officers later spotted Jackson, who lives in Miami’s Spring Garden neighborhood, driving away from the area and stopped him, the report states.
A witness who came out of the restaurant also saw Jackson driving the vehicle and tried to get him to stop, police said. A victim later identified Jackson as the driver responsible for the crash, according to the report.A review of driving records showed Jackson’s Florida driving privileges had been suspended 17 times. The most recent suspension, on June 15, was related to a criminal failure to pay, the report states.
