Energy Minister rules out electricity rate adjustment

Dominican Republic Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, has ruled out any immediate adjustments to the electricity tariff. The announcement addresses public concerns following the release of the National Plurianual Public Sector Plan for 2025-2028, which formally recommended tariff modifications.

An independent study had previously advised implementing tariff adjustments in the short term to address ongoing deficits within the three state electricity distribution companies. According to the study, such measures would align service prices with real operational costs and gradually eliminate cross-subsidies.

Despite these strategic recommendations and the financial challenges facing the distribution sector, Santos maintained that the government is not currently working on implementing any changes to the electricity rates.
