Neonatal deaths account for 80% of infant deaths

According to data from the Ministry of Public Health in the Dominican Republic, neonatal deaths accounted for 80 percent of all infant fatalities in the country up to August 15. The figures, published in the epidemiological bulletin for the 32nd week of the year, indicate a total of 1,131 infant deaths during this period.

Out of the total recorded infant mortality cases, 911 involved neonates. The official statistics highlight the disproportionate impact of newborn deaths within the broader framework of national child mortality metrics.
