Nepal begins probe into what triggered Bhotekoshi disaster

The Nepalese government has initiated a formal investigation into the disaster that struck the Bhotekoshi region on August 26. A seven-member panel of experts has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive assessment of the event, tracing its path from the point of origin through to the downstream areas affected by the incident.

The investigation will focus on identifying the primary triggers of the disaster by examining a range of geological, glacial, and hydrological hazards. Additionally, the panel is expected to evaluate the potential influence of climate change on the stability of the region, providing a technical analysis of the factors that contributed to the emergency.
