Nepal says death toll rises to 987, bringing total killed past 1,000

Devastating floods occurring along the China-Nepal border have resulted in at least 987 deaths within Nepal, according to disaster authorities. This figure, reported on Tuesday, pushes the total number of fatalities in the region past the 1,000 mark. In response to the disaster, Nepalese police have begun conducting mass burials for victims in the Chitwan district.

Additional reports indicate that the disaster, which began on Wednesday, has also impacted neighboring territory. Chinese state media confirmed 16 fatalities in Tibet, contributing to a combined regional death toll of 1,003.
