New Penal Code: the 43 modifications that transform justice in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic officially implements its new Penal Code, designated as Law 74-25, effective Monday, August 3. The legislation introduces 43 distinct modifications intended to transform the national justice system, with the primary provisions taking effect immediately upon the date of enactment as stipulated by article 393.

While the majority of the code’s reforms are active as of August 3, the implementation of corporate criminal liability has been deferred for a period of three months. This staggered rollout, governed by article 30 of the modifying law, represents the only exception to the simultaneous activation of the new legal framework.
