Orangutan rescued from Borneo fire battles respiratory illness

On Sunday morning, a farmer named Jais discovered a weak orangutan writhing on the ground at a palm-oil plantation near a forest fire site in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, an Indonesian province on Borneo island that has been hardest-hit by raging forest fires.

The rescued primate was found to be suffering from a respiratory illness as a direct consequence of the severe fires sweeping through the region.
