Para long jump champ Latif seals Malaysia’s five-gold Games target

(Bernama pic)GLASGOW: National para long jumper Abdul Latif Romly delivered Malaysia’s fifth gold medal when he won the 2026 Commonwealth Games men’s long jump T20 event here tonight.Adding to the 29-year-old’s victory was fellow Malaysian and teammate Eljoe Gotuoh’s third place finish, which secured another bronze medal for Malaysia.Battling heavy rain throughout the competition at Scotstoun Stadium, Abdul Latif successfully completed a leap of 7.17m in his third attempt to secure the gold medal and complete the national contingent’s five-gold target for the Games.Eljoe Gotuoh claimed the bronze medal with a leap of 6.51 m for a 1-3 podium finish for Malaysia, leaving Canada’s Noah Vucsics the silver with a jump of 6.66 m.Abdul Latif’s gold medal is Malaysia’s fifth of the Games, with weightlifters Mohamad Aniq Kasdan in the men’s 60 kilogramme (kg) category, Muhamad Aznil Bidin (65 kg), Muhammad Erry Hidayat (79 kg) and Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin (88 kg) having won the previous four gold.The Malaysian contingent came to the Games with an overall target of five gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Sam Tolchard says winning his first Commonwealth Games gold medal at his fifth games "means everything".
