Parties call for joint Nepal-China study of glacial lake risks

Eight political parties in Nepal have formally requested a joint study with China to assess the risks posed by glacial lakes along their shared border. The agreement was reached during an all-party meeting aimed at addressing environmental vulnerabilities in the Himalayan region.

In addition to the request for a bilateral study, the parties agreed to establish a parliamentary mechanism tasked with overseeing flood recovery efforts. The initiative also emphasizes the need for enhanced cross-border early warning systems to mitigate the impact of future glacial lake outburst floods.
