Pending reform of Dominican family law

The Dominican Republic continues to face a pending reform regarding its family law, centred on the legislation governing minors. Specifically, the Code for the System of Protection of Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents, known as Law 136-03, entered into force on October 17, 2004.

At the time of its implementation, the legislation marked a major advancement in strengthening the national child protection system. However, discussions persist regarding the broader modernization and reform of family law frameworks in the country.
