Spanish PM says Morocco’s border control ‘failed’ in Ceuta

On Tuesday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez blamed a failure of Moroccan border controls for a recent migrant crisis in the Spanish North African territory of Ceuta. The statement addresses an unprecedented and deadly rush that occurred on July 30 and 31.

During the two-day incident, more than 70,000 migrants entered Ceuta. While the vast majority of those who crossed returned to Morocco in the hours following the event, several thousand individuals remained part of the aftermath of the crisis.
