A GPS, 12,000 kilometers and 4 countries: the story of the elephant that could change what is known about migrations in Africa

Between June 2023 and the present, a young male African elephant equipped with a GPS tracker traveled nearly 12,000 kilometers over a two-year period across the southern region of the continent. During this extensive journey, the animal crossed four different countries and six national parks.

This unprecedented movement covers a vast geographic area and has the potential to alter established scientific understandings of elephant migrations in Africa.
