The European Union activated its consular assistance system and Copernicus satellite service to help Colombia after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake

Following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Colombia that has resulted in a death toll ranging between 111 and 132 victims, international aid and solidarity efforts have been mobilized. The disaster prompted the European Commission to activate its Civil Protection mechanism alongside its Copernicus satellite service and consular assistance systems, while also deploying an initial 100,000 euros in immediate humanitarian aid.

In addition to European Union support, regional and institutional actors responded to the crisis on Monday. Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader issued a public message of solidarity expressing readiness to provide assistance, and the FC Barcelona Foundation initiated an emergency fundraising campaign accompanied by an initial donation of 100,000 euros to aid those affected by the catastrophe.
