Wildfire at Indonesia’s Mount Bromo mostly contained as smoke forces school closures

Indonesian firefighters have brought a wildfire at Mount Bromo, a prominent national park on the island of Java, under control. While the majority of the blaze has been contained, crews continue to work on extinguishing several remaining hot spots within the area.

The fire, which has scorched a significant portion of the park, has resulted in hazardous smoke conditions. As a consequence of the air quality, local authorities have implemented school closures in the vicinity of the tourist destination.
