Woodcats supports more than 100 children with back-to-school supplies

KINGSTON, Jamaica — More than 100 children received books, school supplies and book vouchers at Woodcats International’s annual back-to-school treat on August 21. In a release, the company said the initiative, held at its Slipe Pen Road location, provided support to primary and high school students from surrounding communities, including Gordon Road, Paisley Road, Craig Town and the wider Slipe Pen Road area, ahead of the new school year. “It’s a privilege for us to be a strong community partner and to be able to invest in educating and empowering the next generation of nation builders,” said Peter Douglas, general manager of Woodcats International Limited.

“Over the last 15 years we have remained committed to this initiative and our community members know they can count on us to continue,” he added. Douglas said the initiative also supports employees whose children are among the beneficiaries. “Some of the parents here are also members of our team.

This initiative gives us another opportunity to support them beyond the workplace and really partner with them in building their families and communities,” he said. Patrick Lynch, whose granddaughter is entering Grade 5 and preparing for the Primary Exit Profile examinations, described the programme as an important source of support. “Woodcats always comes at the right time.

We have books, supplies and other expenses to manage, so this support means so much to our family. It gives her parents one less thing to worry about,” he said. Michelle Hinds, who has received assistance from Woodcats for the past three years, said the support was particularly meaningful as her 12-year-old daughter prepares to enter high school.

This year, I started from June, but we are still not completely ready. I am grateful because I know I have support from Woodcats each year. Once I submit the booklist, I feel some of the pressure lift because I know help is on the way,” she said.

The children also participated in food, entertainment and other activities alongside Woodcats employees, parents and community members. Douglas said employment, education and community development remain central to the company’s work. “As we grow, the community must grow with us.
